Programs, Instruction, and Tutoring

To register for an upcoming class or program, or for more information, please stop by the Information Desk on the second floor of the library or call the Adult Services Department at 423-434-4454.

Programs

The library offers informational programs on a variety of topics throughout the year.  Popular programs offered in the past include Avoiding Identity Theft, Financial Literacy, an introduction to Ancestry.com Library Edition, and building research skills.  Programs are usually held in the Computer Center on the second floor of the library.  Look for upcoming programs on the library’s Events Calendar.

Instruction

Computers are essential tools in our daily lives.  Without some fundamental skills and knowledge it can be frustrating and difficult to use computers.  Through training and practice computer skills can be learned.

To meet this need in our community, the Johnson City Public Library offers computer training sessions.  Classes range in subject from the very basics of computer use to more advanced applications.  Examples of previous classes include How to Use the Internet, Resume and Job Searching workshops, and Introduction to Social Media.  Classes are held in the Computer Center on the second floor of the library.  Upcoming classes will be posted on the library’s Events Calendar.

Computer Tutoring

Johnson City Public Library offers free one-on-one basic computer instruction. Introductory level topics include:

Computer Basics:  Get started on a computer and learn to use a mouse.

Internet:  Learn how to navigate the Internet to find useful information.

E-mail:  Set up a free e-mail account and learn e-mailing features.

Microsoft Word:  Type and edit using Word tools and features.

Microsoft PowerPoint:  Create and edit a slideshow using PowerPoint tools and features.

Job Searches and Resumes:  Use a computer to find potential jobs and fill out applications. Create, edit, and print out a resume.

Social Media:  Create, share, and exchange information via social media sites, such as Facebook.
