Christy wants to be a cheerleader!!  But Renee doesn't want her to be on the team.  Christy makes the team but Teri doesn't.  Christy gives her place to Teri because she didn't make it.  Rick was upset because she gave up.  But everything turns out all right.

Island Dreamer by Robin Jones Gunn

Christy is afraid she is going to have a terrible summer when Paula came, until they went to Hawaii with Todd!!  Paula goes head over heels in love with Todd when she sees him!!   Todd jumps off a bridge because he made a choice to do so!  Then he gets stung by a bee and he is allergic to bees.  The only other one who could drive is Paula!!  So,  she tells Todd she will drive and he says he could,  but she insists!  She went across the same bridge Todd jumps off of!  She ends up with a great summer!
