HOW DOES THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM WORK?

  • The summer reading program is open to children of all ages. Each child sets his or her own reading goal and may sign up to read as much as they wish. Come to the Youth Services Desk if you need to sign up.

  • If the child is in Kindergarten or younger, he or she may sign up to be a listener.

  • Each child (or parent) will keep a list of books or the amount of time that they read or that are read to them.

  • Parents and children may periodically visit the library in order transfer their book list or time read onto their Summer Reading logs which are located in the blue boxes by the Youth Services desk. Then when the child has completed 1/8th of his or her goal he or she may bring his or her Reading Logs to the Desk in order to receive a game or mobile piece. (Listeners may bring their Listening log to us at any time in order to receive a sticker for each book.

  • At the end of the summer, children who have completed their goal will receive a certificate and be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony where they will enjoy Cici's Pizza

We are located on the first floor of the Johnson City Public Library.  We are available during library hours to answer reference questions and help patrons find the materials they need. You may contact us in person, by phone (434-4458), or via E-mail (youth@jcpl.net). Our Librarians want to help you find a good book to read. Booklists for different ages and subject matter are also available to help guide you to the book of your choice.
