JCPL is a member of OWL, the Organization of Watauga Libraries. All public libraries in Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties share a common computerized catalog system. With this system, patrons can find and request books from any OWL library.

Lincoln Is Coming to the Library

From September 4th through October 16th, the Johnson City Public Library will host an American Library Association national touring exhibit, “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War.” Visit the exhibit page for more information and a list of upcoming special events to promote education and discussion.

New Landscaping Plan for the Johnson City Public Library

Change is coming to the landscape of the library. In partnership with East Tennessee State University, the library is the recipient of a Tennessee Stormwater Grant, and some of the new landscaping will be in connection with this grant project. Very soon, the hedges in front of the library will be removed, resulting in a different look for the library. Be assured that this is only the beginning of a larger plan and vision for the library’s grounds. Check back for more exciting details!

Closed Labor Day and Open on Sundays

The Johnson City Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 7th to commemorate Labor Day. After Labor Day, regular library hours will resume, and the library will be open on Sundays. Regular library hours for the public are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. For more information about library hours and services call 434-4450.

New Art Exhibit at the Library

Visit the Johnson City Public Library’s Galleria to view a new exhibit titled “37°N.” The exhibit features composite images that were captured in Johnson City and Suwon, South Korea, to illustrate the similarities and differences between the two towns both located along the 37th parallel north. The two photographers whose works are showcased are Laura Beth Davidson from northeast Tennessee and Jayne Cho, an Australian who lives in South Korea.

Using the OWL Catalog

We have assembled a useful page to help patrons adjust to the new catalog. Check it out!

Meet the New Library System

The OWL (Organization of Watauga Libraries) Consortium, consisting of Johnson City Public Library and nine other library systems in upper east Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia, has completed its migration to a new library system. Our system has a new domain name to bookmark and use: owl.sirsi.net.

During the migration, we transferred all of our library accounts, including their account information, current check outs, holds, fines, etc. You will login to your account using your library card number (such as 22488001234567) and your password (PIN). Your password will be your last name. If you experience any difficulties accessing your OWL account, please call us during regular hours at 423-434-4450.

Our system is by SirsiDynix, one of the leading library system vendors in the world. To this system, we will be adding new features and telling you about them in this space in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we invite you to explore your new catalog at owl.sirsi.net.
