EBSCOhost Research Databases
The Library currently offers access to two databases from EBSCOhost Research Databases; Auto Repair Reference Center and Points of View Reference Center. The Auto Repair Reference Center (ARRC) contains the complete automotive repair manuals that were originally published in the Chilton Total Car Care Series. Every major manufacturer for domestic and imported vehicles is represented including auto repair manuals for most vintage makes starting as far back as 1945. New repair procedures/updates are added continuously, and Technical Service Bulletins are added on a monthly or quarterly basis. The Points of View Reference Center is designed to assist researchers in understanding the full scope of controversial subjects. High school and undergraduate students can use Points of View as a guide to debate, developing arguments, writing position papers, and for development of critical thinking skills. Each Points of View Essay includes a series of questions and additional material to generate further thought. Also included are thousands of supporting articles from the world’s top political and societal publications. Points of View is part of the Tennessee Electronic Library.

CQ Researcher
The CQ Researcher is the choice of researchers seeking original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. Published in print and online 44 times a year, the single-themed CQ Researcher report offers in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy.

Heritage Quest Online
Heritage Quest Online offers page images of the entire U.S. Census from 1790 through 1930, with indexes that can be searched by name. The database also includes ProQuest's searchable Genealogy and Local History Collection of over 25,000 family and local history books.  This collection of genealogies, biographies, county histories, church histories, and other genealogical records includes material from all fifty U.S. states and Canada.

Tennessee Electronic Library
The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL), provided through Thomson Gale, gives access to selected databases, including the Gale Virtual Reference Library, Infotrac, Health and Wellness Resource Center, Kids InfoBits, Expanded Academic ASAP, General Business File ASAP, National Newspaper Index, Points of View Reference Center, and many more! This resource is provided through Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds.

World Book Encyclopedia Online
World Book, Inc., has set the standard for providing accuracy, objectivity, and reliability in research materials for both children and adults. Now the leading publisher of print encyclopedias and references offers World Book Online, an immense and searchable resource comprised of an atlas, dictionary, and encyclopedia. Also available are Spanish and British English editions.

Remote Access to
Online Resources

The library offers direct access to online resources from computers used in the library.  However, for patrons working at remote locations, such as in their homes or offices, we require an authentication process to verify they are valid library patrons.  (This is necessary because of licensing agreements we have with the vendors of these resources.)

When you, as a remote user, click on one of the above links, you will visit an intermediate screen like the one pictured to the right.  In the spaces provided, you will enter your fourteen digit patron barcode number and your last name (as it is in the library's records).  Then click on the Login button.  (The barcode will be masked as you enter it for security purposes.)

By accessing online resources in this way, remote patrons will not have to keep lists of identities and passwords as they have in the past.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact the Reference Desk at 423-434-4454 or send us an e-mail message at phoneroom@jcpl.net
