21st century workers need 21st century skills. First among those skills is the ability to learn – in a change-driven workplace, it’s no longer about what to learn, but how to learn. “Lifelong learning is no longer an option, it’s a necessity. SMART is the new RICH!” (Bernie Trilling, 21st Century Skills)
Johnson City Public Library’s Career Center encourages and supports workers of all kinds – whether out of work, changing careers, desiring to excel in a current career, or taking the plunge into entrepreneurship. The library has a variety of traditional and innovative resources and services to enhance personal and professional growth and development.
From online guides, links, and resource tools that are accessible on our website 24/7 to classes and individual tutoring at the library by appointment, laptops and printers for use in the library, and the latest books and dvds on job searching, small business planning, and career advice for every level of professional development, the library has tools to help you both within its walls and wherever you are .
Working today often involves a combination of technology skills and “people” skills. Accordingly, JCPL encourages patrons to practice both kinds of skills, both in our Instruction Center and off-site with resources provided by Learning Express Library and Universal Class. Today’s jobs require a commitment to constant exploration of new skills and ways of learning. The goal of the JCPL Career Center is to allow you to conveniently find and use all the resources you need to meet these challenges
